At Your Goals Physical Therapy, I’ve had the privilege of working with several individuals who needed to wear a walking boot for various issues, including chronic ankle sprains, acute ankle sprains, and foot fractures. And let me tell you, once they were finally allowed out of that walking boot, they couldn’t help but scream YAY! The boot, while serving its purpose, was undeniably uncomfortable – hot, heavy, and just plain miserable to walk in.

However, as they joyously stepped out of the boot, a new set of questions arose:

  1. What’s the right way to transition back to my regular shoes?
  2. Why is my ankle still swelling, and why does it feel so stiff?
